5 crime groups neutralized in Sept alone

The disbandment of different criminal gangs, the apprehension of wanted persons, and the arrest of a big-time drug pusher, among others, highlighted the Bicol PNP's accomplishments for the month of September this year. Philippine National Police (PNP) Bicol Regional Director Chief Supt. Jaime L. Lasar, in a press report, said that five criminal gangs operating in the region have been neutralized in separate police operations. These gangs include the Caya Gang, a newly-identified cri-minal gang operating in Da-raga, Albay, engaged in car-napping and cellphone snatching activities; Nocete Gang, a newly-identified cri-minal gang operating in Da-raga, Albay, engaged in theft of truck batteries;

Dacuyan Budol-Budol Gang, identified criminal gang operating in Legazpi City, engaged in swindling activities; Buenafe Gang, identified criminal gang engaged in robbery operations in Daraga, Albay; and Dante Gang, a newly-identified criminal gang operating in Masbate City, engaged in highway robberies.

Lasar also bared that five provincial/city/municipal Most Wanted Persons were apprehended by the police in Bicol, in its strengthened campaign against criminal elements. These include Sergio Bejo Jr. y Vargas, accused for robbery and listed as No. 7 provincial most wanted person in Albay; Mario Calsis y Lavarro, accused for murder and listed as No. 1 municipal most wanted person in Camarines Norte; Roberto Olite y delos Santos, accused for murder and listed as No. 1 provincial most wanted person in Camarines Norte; Noli Manjares y Medrano, accused for murder and listed as No. 5 most wanted person in Sta. Elena, Camarines Norte; and Ruben Lastrella y Braja, accused for homicide and listed as No. 12 municipal most wanted person in Castilla, Sorsogon.

The police campaign against illegal gambling yielded 90 jueteng bet collectors and a total of P19,755.50 bet money and gambling paraphernalia, with 26 cases already filed in court, Lasar said.
On the campaign against illegal drugs, the Bicol police, in its 93 operations, netted 60 persons and confiscated 568.94 grams of shabu worth P1,137,882.80 and 8.6 grams of marijuana worth P215. Twenty-five cases were filed in court. Lasar pointed to the arrest of Tito Lim Tie, aka Manuel, 35, of 138 Moriones Zaragoza St., Tondo, Manila, as the most significant accomplishment for the month. Said person was apprehended in a buy-bust operation last September 10 in Naga City, which resulted in the confiscation of 5 pieces of transparent plastic sachet containing suspected shabu, with a total weight of approximately 500 grams worth P1 million.
For the 303 crime incidents recorded in September, 282 cases were solved, attaining a 93.05 percent crime solution efficiency (CSE) for the Bicol PNP.

The September Average Monthly Crime Rate in Bicol was placed at 6.06 per 100,000 population.
