The National Food Authority (NFA) in Bicol has prepared for a massive procurement of palay for this harvest season with the buying price for clean and dry palay pegged at P9/kg, effective September 2003 till February 2004.
NFA Bicol assistant regional director Jose Guevarra bared that on top of the incentive given to farmers for every kilogram of palay sold to the agency, delivery and drying incentive fees, in the amount of P0.10 and P0.15, respectively, for a total of P9.25/kg. are to be given to individual farmers delivering his harvest to NFA. "For farmer coops, a Cooperative Incentive Fund (CIF) of P0.25/kg is also being granted, for a total of P9.50/kg."
Guevarra also announced that with prevailing inclement weather during this part of the year, the NFA regional office has instructed all provincial managers to utilize the mechanical dryer in their respective areas so farmers delivering wet palay can avail of the unit. "Employees involved in procurement activity are also instructed to render overtime during holidays/Saturdays and Sundays to serve the farmers."
